Cheney's office opposed Miers

Here's an interesting little twist from Raw Story: Dick Cheney was opposed to the Miers nomination. Does this mean that Cheney and the neocons are losing control of the White House?

"A last minute effort was made to block the choice of Ms. Miers, including the offices of Vice President Cheney and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales," Fund claims. "It fell on deaf ears."

"Indeed, even internal advice was shunned," Fund adds. White House Chief of Staff Andrew "Card is said to have shouted down objections to Ms. Miers at staff meetings. A senator attending the White House swearing-in of John Roberts four days before the Miers selection was announced was struck by how depressed White House staffers were during discussion of the next nominee. He says their reaction to him could have been characterized as, "Oh brother, you have no idea what's coming."

There are so many turns to this story, I no longer know what to think...

I know, I'm so confused. I suppose one day it'll all be sorted out. Until then I just don't know what to think.

The republican party seems to be imploding within itself, and we can only stand here baffled....

I know I'm a young girl, but is it normal to have a second term president with this many problems in his first year of the second term?

It just pains me to think that there could be three more years of this

I'm a bit young to also recall. I mean, I know Iran-Contra was during Reagan's second term, but I think that was in the second year...and of course Clinton's troubles came in his second year of his second term. Maybe you have to go all the way back to Nixon to find this level of trouble in the first year?

I know. I hope a lot of voters are feeling remorse these days. It's the only comfort I can really take in the disasters that are plaguing this nation.

I too am confused about Miers but I still think that I believe she is a stealth candidate. I think that the Bushies are citing her religion so much as a wink and a nod to fundamentalist Xtians that she will oppose and perhaps work to overturn Roe.

With Roberts they were playing down his Catholic faith but now they are playing UP Miers faith.

Strange dontchya think?

I think they see her as just a religious vote and not a possible SCOTUS judge who would use reason and the rule of law to vote.

Anyway, that's my take on it at this point.

As for GWB and Clinton in his second term? I saw awhile back that Clinton's poll numbers where still higher at the height of the impeachment then Bush has now.
